Abstract

The Maine Timber Bridge Initiative, a coalition of private citizens and representatives of the Maine Department of Transportation, the University of Maine, the Maine Forest Service and the Maine Alliance of Resource Conservation & Development offices, in December 1991 saw the completion of a 22-foot timber bridge in Gray. The bridge was the first of 16 demonstration bridges to be built by MTBI, and others have been built in Byron and North Yarmouth, with construction expected in five other communities and Baxter State park.
