Abstract

The Maine House defeated a bill sponsored by Rep. Sean Faircloth, D-Bangor, which would have required the governor to participate in a question-and-answer session with the House and Senate once a month while the Legislature is in session. Gov. John R. McKernan opposed the measure, which was modeled on the British system where the prime minister makes regular appearances before the House of Commons to defend his government's policies.
