Abstract

Maine is the nation's largest producer of brown eggs, and the biggest export from Portland harbor is eggs. Sixty million of them leave the port each year. The proposed General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade would impose quotas on the United States on the amount of eggs it could ship, and Maine could lose 50 percent of its export business in the first year of GATT.
