Abstract

"City" piece on Marguerite MacDonald, principal of Reiche Community School in Portland. Portland school superintendent Mary Jane McCalmon is trying to move MacDonald out of her job by offering her a one-year, unspecified position in a newly created English as a Second Language program. Problems at Reiche began last year, when MacDonald investigated allegations against a teacher, resulting in a vote of no-confidence by the Portland Education Association.
