"Comment" piece endorsing state Senate candidates Joel Abromson (District 27), Anne Rand (28), Beth Edmonds (23), Carol Kontos (26), Bill O'Gara (29), Lynn Bromley (30) and Peggy Pendleton (31); state House candidates Ben Dudley (30), Mike Saxl (31), Bill Norbert (34), Eliza Townsend (36), Nolan McCoy (24), Elaine McCool (40), with no endorsement for Districts (26) and (27); Cumberland County sheriff candidate Mark Dion; Cumberland County Register of Deeds Suzanne Scott; with no endorsement for Cumberland County District Attorney. Also recommending a "No" vote on Question 1, a $20 million bond issue for research and development; a "No" vote on Question 2, a $7 million bond issue for water-quality improvements; a "Yes" vote on a Portland referendum that would veto a city ordinance banning smoking in Portland's restaurants; and a "Yes" vote on a South Portland referendum that would establish a city gay-rights ordinance.
