Abstract

"Edge" piece focusing on Bruce Lowden, 39, of East Corinth, who is the resident Kriss Kringle at South Portland's Maine Mall. Lowden, a self-employed antique restorer, works on a seasonal basis for Santa Plus of Montana, a firm that only hires men who have real silver whiskers, rosy cheeks and a midsection that shakes like a bowlful of jelly. This season marks his 22nd year as Kringle, an identity he assumed while still in high school and working at his dad's department store.
