Abstract

"Edge" piece on La Bodega Latina, a Portland grocery store featuring Latino specialties, and its owner, Juan Gonzalez, 29, a native of the Dominican Republic who moved to Portland from Puerto Rico where he worked for GTE. Gonzalez has a full-time job at Maine Medical Center, maintaining phones and computers. He spends his weekday evenings and Saturdays at the bodega with his wife, Rosa, and two children, where he caters to a community he estimates at 4,800 people, including many Anglos.
