Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Davin Binenbaum, 17, of Portland, who is the organizer of the Maine Animal Defense League, a state chapter of the national Animal Defense League. State membership now stands at about 30. In addition to demonstrating at stores that sell fur, like Macy's at the Maine Mall in South Portland, the group regularly distributes leaflets on city streets and sets up displays at concerts and punk rock shows where Binenbaum's all-vegan band, Humanicide, plays with other politically conscious performers. With answers to questions posed to several animal rights activists, a taxidermist, a philosophy professor, a Native American and a chef in an attempt to gauge the impact the animal rights movement is having in Maine.
