Abstract

According to Kevin Markee, director of Portland's treasury, the number of tax liens filed against deliquent property owners was the lowest in a decade. Markee said that only 637 liens were filed in fiscal year 1999, compared to around 1,800 a decade ago. Stanley Campbell, the director of the state's property tax compliance division, credited the decline to the good economy, "plain and simple."
