Abstract

"City" piece on the Greater Portland Boys Conference, which is tentatively scheduled for November 2000. The conference is planned to "provide a chance for boys to explore the pressures and mixed messages that are thrust upon them," and as "an occasion for fun and celebration." Layne Gregory, the event's coordinator, hopes the conference will attract 300 young men in the 6th through the 12th grades, and their fathers or male mentors. The cost is estimated at $15,000, of which $500 will come from the city and the rest from contributions and attendance fees.
