"Cover Story" piece on drug addiction in Maine. Maine Drug Enforcement Agency heroin arrests rose 40 percent in 2000, with seizure of the drug jumping 94 percent over the previous year. According to preliminary state figures, 31 people died of illegal drug overdoses in 1998, and 20 more drug-related deaths were officially considered "suicides."
