Abstract

Article faulting Democrat Herbert Adams, 48, a candidate for Portland's state House District 33 seat, for not correcting the long-held misimpression that he holds a college diploma from the University of Southern Maine (USM). When asked why he hadn't contacted local papers when they mistakenly reported that he was a college grad, Adams noted that he seldom reads the press coverage of himself. Interesting, Michael Quint, who replaced Adams in the Legislature after Adams was forced to leave because of term limits, found himself in some difficulty when it was learned that he had allegedly lied about holding a degree from USM. A random search for stories on political races in which Adams has run, reveals four instances in which it was reported that he holds a bachelor's degree from USM.
