Abstract

Jonesport and Beals Island high school basketball teams started winning championships in the 1920s, and since the two towns were consolidated in 1969 the boys' varsity basketball team has won nine state titles. To say that basketball is big is not enough; basketball is the only game in town, enlivening the winters and giving a sense of community to the residents. Details.
