Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Bath during the Christmas season. On the first Saturday after Thanksgiving each year, this historic shipbuilding village on the Kennebec River begins its holiday festivities with what it claims is the largest Christmas parade in the state. And at dusk that evening, roughly 20,000 tiny white lights blink to life all over town; a tradition that goes back to World War II. Then, on the Monday before Christmas, folks from all over town congregate at the 450-seat Chocolate Church and, as they have done each year for nearly three decades, they sing the age-old songs of Christmas.
