Abstract

Atwell Wixson of Albion was 17 when he enlisted in the Third Maine Infantry Regiment, and after serving one tour of duty signed up again on March 8, 1864. Some 200 of the letters between Wixson and his family back home exist, and give a personal view of what was happening on the frontlines and back home in Maine during the Civil War. Details.
