Abstract

"North by East"reporting that Maine fishermanm are beginning to havest sea cucumbers, slimy bottom dwellers, that are popular in Japan, South Korea and China, according to Kerry Geel at Shore-Fresh Seafood in Harrington. According to Geel, fishermen get five to ten cents a pound for whole cucumbers, and his company sells the meat for $6.50. He believes prices might improve as a marketing structure for the creature improves.
