Abstract

"Inside Maine" piece on the numerous state-owned public lands which are absent from most maps and often unmarked by road signs. Many of these large tracts, maintained by the Department of Conservation, offer hiking, camping and swimming. One newly-acquired property of note occupies 2,100 acres of headland and heath along the Cutler coast.
