Abstract
"Making It In Maine," piece on Dana Bourgeois, 43, of Topsham. Employing 14 workers at Dana Bourgeois Guitars in Lewiston, he turns out 10 to 15 high-quality acoustic guitars each week, using a combination of traditional handcrafting and computer engineering. He built his first guitar while working as curatorial intern at Bowdoin College's art museum and went on to develop an acoustic-electric guitar for noted guitar manufacturer Paul Reed Smith, before going into business for himself four years ago. He has a million-dollar backlog of orders.
