Abstract

"Making It In Maine," piece on Portland entrepreneur Carl Pabst, who has a thriving business called Lean on Me, making and selling his unique wooden canes to stores across the country. He was injured when a coil of metal cable fell 50 feet and hit him on the head, shortening his height by two inches and disrupting his balance mechanism. He crafted his first cane for himself. He has expanded his worshop three times since he started the business in 1990 and is planning a fourth expansion.
