Abstract

"Making It In Maine," piece on Larry Fuegen of Wiscasset, the only master bladesmith in Maine. Each knife he makes is a work of art, and begins in his forge, where he folds and refolds the metal, developing up to 500 layers for each knife blank. The result is called Damascus steel. He has recently branched out, handcrafting walking sticks and jewelry. His hobby developed into a business when he was on strike at Bath Iron Works in 1985.
