Abstract

"North by East" piece on how Maine's tourism industry will be affected this summer by a new hard-line policy from the Department of Homeland Security. Early this spring, seasonal employers discovered that the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services had awarded its maximum number of temporary work visas and refused to reconsider its visa cap without congressional action. One lobster company, which counted on 28 foreign workers, might lose $1 million.
