Maine is an avid Red Sox state, with numerous connections to the Boston baseball team. Details on Mainers who have played for the Red Sox, Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett who played with the Portland Sea Dogs, Maine residents (64) who hold Red Sox season-ticket accounts, famous fans like former Maine senator George Mitchell and Gov. John Baldacci, comparisons between Fenway Park in Boston and Hadlock Field in Portland, and other ties. In 2002, the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs switched their major-league affiliation from the Marlins to the Red Sox.
