Abstract

Profile of Cushing artist Katharine Cobey, 68, who has become world-famous for elevating knitting to a fine art. Her most famous piece, "Boat with Four Figures," suggests independence, isolation, and the human connections that knit us together. Some of her most memorable pieces have been knit from plastic trash bags. She works every day in her studio overlooking the Meduncook River, although her mobility has been limited by a back injury.
