Abstract

Russell Libby directs the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), which was chosen to be the recipient of the 2007 Down East Environmental Award. MOFGA is most famous for its 30-year-old Common Ground Country Fair, held each September in Unity, but it also advocates for farmland protection and stronger pesticide controls. The group promotes local food production and organic farming, once-radical trends that are now becoming mainstream. With a history of the organization and a profile of Libby.
