Abstract

An article on the growing trend of eating locally, which has been picked up by everyone from four-star chefs to shoppers at farmer's markets. Despite the popularity of locally-grown food, Maine farmers receive less than 4 percent of the $3 billion spent by Mainers on food each year. In many cases, demand outstrips supply. With recipes for soups using Maine's autumn produce and details on orchards, winerys, breweries, natural food stores, and places to picnic in Maine.
