Abstract

Maine's First Lady, Karen Baldacci, an avid gardener, discovered the original 1920 planting plans for the New England garden, created by Carl Rust Parker as part of the Olmsted brothers' design for the Blaine House grounds. With help from the Friends of the Blaine House, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program, and the Kennebec Garden Club, she has restored the garden and helped assure its sustainability.
