Abstract

Todd Morrissette, owner and sole employee of the DeadHead Lumber Company, salvages hardwood logs that have long rested at the bottom of Moosehead Lake, leftovers from high quality lumber that was being transported to mills during the 1800s. His eco-friendly salvage methods allow him to "harvest" wood without impacting the forests. Previous attempts to recover this sunken lumber have dealt mostly with the shallower areas of the lake but Morrissette's custom boat and equipment allow him to explore deeper waters and his experience in the lumber industry helps him market to companies in the U.S. and abroad.
