Abstract

Description of the author's trips to view petroglyphs near Grand Lake Stream and Birch Point on Machias Bay, two of the 13 known petroglyph sites in Maine. Mark Hadden, Maine's Native American petroglyph expert, led the author and a group to visit the Birch Point site, location of the oldest petroglyphs in Maine. The locations of Maine petroglyphs are a closely guarded secret because they could be damaged or cut out of the surrounding stone.
