Abstract

In the 1950s, Helen and Scott Nearing pioneered the back-to-the-land movement when they moved to Brooksville. Today, the village has a thriving locavore culture and a close-knit community of farmers. With a sidebar that discusses the food sovereignty ordinances that have been adopted by nine Maine towns, including four on the Blue Hill peninsula.
