Abstract

Illustration from the January 1911 magazine cover of “Puck” shows a woman diving into the waters of Florida after shedding the heavy clothing of Maine’s winter. In the background are birds and girls flying like birds, with the caption “From Maine to Florida: The Annual Migration of the Bathing Girl.” “Puck” was a popular magazine of its day that helped shape the political ideas of the growing middle class. This issue shows readers Mainers have been going to Florida for the winter for some time. [image]
