Abstract

Lavishly illustrated with photographs by the author, this piece chronicles the 20th anniversary paddle up the upper St. John River by a group of guides, foresters and conservationists, in commemoration of the 1998 purchase by The Nature Conservancy of 185,000 acres of land bordering the river. The scale of the purchase was unlike any other purchase TNC had made at that point.
