Abstract

The Breakwater estate on Mount Desert Island was built in 1904 by John Innes Kane, a great-grandson of John Jacob Astor. Bonnie Sawyer purchased the place a few years ago, fixed it up, and today operates it as one of the finest bed and breakfast establishments on the island.
