Abstract
In 1973, the College of the Atlantic formed the Mount Desert Rock Whale Watch to observe the behavior of the remarkable number of whales in the area. For 11 years they have charted eight whale species, as well as Leach's storm petrel birds, drawn to the rock. The rock is an ideal site for zoo-plankton, fish, squid, and the marine mammals that feed on them.
