Abstract

An in-depth profile of African-American painter, puppeteer, storyteller, author and illustrator, Ashley Bryan, 86, who moved to Little Cranberry Island, also known as Islesford, when he retired from Dartmouth College in 1988. In his wide-ranging career, he has taken part in the invasion of Normandy, won a Fullbright fellowship, won numerous awards for his children's books, and traveled the world teaching people of all ages the importance of community, color, and creativity. He is instrumental in supporting projects in Africa and was recently appointed to the World Economic Council's 2010 Class of Young Global Leaders.
