Abstract

Stonington, located on the southern tip of Deer Isle, is relatively isolated despite being connected by a bridge to the mainland. It is a fishing town, with between three and four hundred independently owned fishing boats in the harbor in 2013, yet it is has also become a vibrant arts scene. The town is struggling with its ability to remain a genuine affordable working town for its locals, but also accommodating newcomers and the ideas they bring. [images]
