Abstract

Southwest Harbor, long considered the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island, issued a moratorium on cruise ships entering its harbor to preserve working waterfront access for fishermen. The town is trying to maintain its identity and local quality of life which is threatened by an influx of tourism.
