Abstract

With the support of the U.S. Coast Guard and the interest of local college and conservation groups, some of Maine's island lighthouse stations are gaining new life as research stations. The tall towers on Petit Manan, Matinicus Rock, and Mount Desert Rock are ideal for bird and mammal counts. Petit Manan is unique for its multiple tern species colonies. Details.
