Abstract

"Capitolism" column on the plight of Maine wildlife biologists, caught between scientific facts and the anecdotal evidence preferred by hunters and politicians. The most recent controversy is over coyotes, which, though blamed for depopulating Maine's deer herd, have been shown by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to be relatively harmless to the deer population as a whole.
