Abstract

An interview piece with Scott Owings, director of business development at Worldwide Language Resources, a Rumford business that supplies U.S. military and intelligence agencies with language training, translator, and interpreter services vital to conducting overseas operations. The company, founded by Larry Costa in 1995, has 400-500 overseas contractors and 30 employees in Rumford. Their contractors are increasingly in demand in Iraq. Owings talks about how business has grown and changed since Sept. 11, 2001, and discusses recruitment, security, his customers, and the community's response to the diversity of his employees, which has been supportive.
