Abstract

"Focus on Greater Portland" piece on Spectrum Printing & Graphics, owned by Alex McCulloch, 54, a native of Scotland who lives in Minot, and Mike Fournier of Lewiston. The company was founded in 1986 and now has 34 employees and revenues of over $3 million. Portland is the last of four towns in which Spectrum has been located and is nearer to clients. Despite an industry decline, the company is finding its niche in mid-quantity, high-quality catalog press runs. The partners recently bought a new $2.2 million press and choreographed their move to Portland in a way that would minimize disrupted production. They hope to garner customers who now have to go out of state for catalog work. With details on the company's growth and the printing technology and change of locations that have made it possible, and a list of full-size printers in Maine.
