Abstract

"Next" piece on 12 Mainers shaping the future of the state's economy, with a profile of Elliott and John Chamberlain, owners of ALC Development Corp. in Saco. Although voters in Saco recently overturned the town's approval of their 397-unit anti-sprawl project called Dunstan Crossing, the two brothers have sparked a dialogue on the subject of sprawl. They predict that unless Maine municipalities update their zoning regulations to allow high-density and innovative developments, employees will not be able to live where they work and southern Maine will be negatively affected.
