Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on David Bell, executive director of the Maine Wild Blueberry Commission. Bell is sorting through the potential fallout from the recent blueberry price-fixing verdict, in which a jury found three large processors guilty of conspiring to keep prices low and awarded growers more than $56 million in damages. Bell worries that the verdict will cost Maine market share. He says the verdict comes after two particularly difficult years for the industry, when record harvests from Canada flooded the market and drove down prices for growers and processors alike.
