Abstract

"Building & real estate" piece on the soon-to-close Sanmina-SCI plant in Augusta, built in 1979 by Digital Corp., and called "an incredible campus." It might have been difficult to find a compatible buyer for the complex, with its 40,000 square feet of office space, but Augusta-based Harper's Development has purchased it and sees the 198-acre property as a major opportunity for the firm and for Augusta. Harper's president, Kevin Mattson, envisions a new business park on the site. Mattson has a track record of filling buildings quickly. The city hasn't given up finding a new electronics manufacturer for the space, one that might hire back Sanmina workers, although that appears unlikely.
