Abstract

"Focus on Greater Bangor" piece on how federal, state, tribal, and hydropower entities are working together on the Penobscot River Restoration Project to restore the lower part of the largest river in Maine, where the native sea-run fishery has been largely lost. The Penobscot River Restoration Trust will purchase from PPL Corporation three dams, which will either be removed or provided with fish bypasses. Veazie and Howland are working to seize the opportunities of the project, which already enjoys wide support. When completed, the project will be one of the country's most ambitious and innovative river restoration projects.
