Abstract

Trade advocates are concerned about the emphasis in high schools on preparing students for four-year colleges, which is also the emphasis of many parents. Even though there is a shortage of welders, for example, Southern Maine Technical College in South Portland and Central Maine Technical College in Auburn have eliminated welding programs. To fill the need, industry is focusing on Maine's vocational high schools as a training resource.
