Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on the interest-rate fueled housing market boom. There has been an increase in condo conversions in Portland, with prices comparable to homes just off the peninsula. With new condominium developments coming on the market, prices are starting to come down. The commercial sector has seen a similar price appreciation. Apartment buildings rarely produce income because of their high sale prices, but the purchases are a gamble on price appreciation and future rent increases.
