"Focus on the Midcoast" piece on Rockland's recent renaissance, which includes new chain and big box stores; downtown boutiques, art galleries and cafes; a new "Gateway Center" to spotlight the town; the expansion of the Farnsworth Art Museum; and the Breakwater Marketplace proposed at the location of Nautica Enterprises, a clothing maker that pulled out of town. A cleaner harbor and the demise of odoriferous fish processing plants have increased tourism, but residents want to hold on to their blue collar history and maintain the working waterfront.
