Abstract

University of Maine associate professor of maritime history, Warren Riess, motivated by watching his wife, pastel artist Kathleen Galligan, develop a sinus condition from pastel dust, invented a device called Artists Air. The easel-attached air filter traps dust and fumes generated by art work. The couple had 50 of the filtration devices manufactured last December and so far have sold 27, for a price of $1,099 each.
