Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on the mixed results of a report rating Maine's economic development efforts. Carried out by the Washington, D.C.-based Corporation for Enterprise Development, the report gave Maine low marks for business vitality and academic research and development. Jack Cashman, head of the Maine Economic Development Commission, said the state is trying to do more with higher education and research, but that it is not yet competitive with other states. With additional comments by Scott Moody, senior economist at the Maine Heritage Policy Center; and Lisa Pohlman, associate director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy.
