Abstract

"Focus on Tourism and Hospitality" piece with an interview with State Senator Scott Cowger, who runs the Maple Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast Inn in Hallowell. His became the first B&B to be certified by the state Department of Environmental Protection's green lodging destination program. He discusses the costs and benefits of the program, for which he helped develop criteria; how points are gained for environmentally friendly practices; the payback time for his wind turbine; and how the program might influence consumers' lodging choices.
